Acceptances & Testimonials
2018

Here are two things you should know about our team:

1. More than 80% of the students we work with gain acceptance into one of their top choice schools, and 98% of those who have applied to the Top 50 schools have been accepted.

2. But we don't base our success solely on our students' college acceptances.

Why? Because there are so many other things that our students have done well (GPA, SAT/ACT, Extracurriculars, Life) before meeting us that have prepared them to write a great personal statement. Instead:

We measure our success in other ways...

  • Each time a student tells us that working with us has made him a better writer
  • Each time a student tells us we've helped her gain confidence
  • Or when we receive a testimonial like this:

Ethan you are truly a unique soul, and the things you have taught me about life, the future, writing, communicating, and people are some of the most valuable lessons I have learned in my whole life. I couldn't have picked a better leader to guide me through my college application journey and my first semester of Senior year. If I could go back and change any aspect of my experience with you I would not change a single thing, and I mean that literally. I grew so much from this process with you, and I truly feel as though we have become friends. Today in class, our assignment was to write down our top 5 heroes, and you were on my list. Why? Because you have spent a majority of your life helping others discover what makes them special and different. You not only guide students through the application process, but help motivate us to become the leaders of tomorrow. You never judged me and are always optimistic. I admire your values Ethan, and I will always look up to you as a role model. Thank you for all of your help.

That's how we know we've made a real impact. And that's why we love our work.

But we also don’t mind bragging a little. And, because parents are sometimes curious, we’ve compiled a list of acceptances from the past three years (2016 - 2018)

“I really valued working with you all because it taught me how to write about myself in a creative and artistic way. I never felt like anyone else was putting words into my mouth or writing my essays for me, but rather that I was being taught how to think about certain situations and how to write about them. I remember when I was stuck on the end of my Common App, and Andy just kept asking “so what?” and “what then?”. This helped me complete my essay, because I continued to ask myself the questions that he asked me during our sessions outside of them. So grateful for the help on essays and improvement in self-expression and writing!”

"(I loved Ethan's) positive attitude and willingness to listen. I felt like he really cared about what I wanted and where I wanted to be. He helped me find my voice and tell a consistent story. He also helped me coordinate my essays and common app information so I was able to highlight different aspects of my experience and personality, which I was having trouble doing myself.
I had a great experience with Ethan and the College Essay Guy team! They really listened to me and helped me to compile a complete and convincing application. I got into my dream school, thank you so much!"

"Working with the College Essay Guy team, I discovered who I am as a person, what I value, and how I specifically developed and express my values. Knowing who I am as a person was essential in genuinely presenting myself to college admissions representatives. My essay coach, Mr. Simpson, met with me over Skype and was free to meet as much as I could keep up. He coached me on how to write my essays, but did it in a way where my voice was maintained. The best part about the College Essay Guy team is that I was constantly pushed to strive for even better essays. They do not want to just get you an essay, they help you present yourself in the best possible way you can...I learned a lot about what I value as a person. I learned about my different qualities and characteristics that I have used in the past, and will continue to use in the future. I really enjoyed reflecting on specific experiences that led me to develop these values... I enjoyed working with the College Essay Guy team."

"Ethan was there pretty much whenever I needed help with something, and I felt that he was invested in my application, which was encouraging. I also appreciated his emotional intelligence, it made the process a lot more comforting. The College Essay Guy team knew a lot about the application process--more than I could ever find on my own--and was there to guide me through the whole thing. I especially found Ethan's critiques helpful, because he seemed to have a great sense of what will or won't stand out to an admissions officer, and working with him helped me highlight the right parts of my profile. I never felt that I was lost or on my own, which is a great feeling to have in something as daunting as applying to college."

The best part about working with Ethan was definitely his unique perspective on college essays and ability to decipher between details that told my story and those that were unnecessary. I think I needed someone to LISTEN to my ideas and help me craft my essays based on that and Ethan did just that! His questions, although difficult at first, taught me a lot about myself and they definitely took me out of my comfort zone... Choosing to work with the College Essay Guy team was no doubt the best decision I’ve made during the college admissions process!.. THANK YOU!!! It was a great pleasure to get to work with the College Essay Guy team and I'm really grateful for that opportunity. I've learned a great deal about myself and the world around me, and I can't wait to head off to college thanks to you guys :)

"College Essay Guy's entire process really helped brainstorm, and develop ideas into essays I was really proud of. The process and planning also came in really handy, and I really feel like the essays I eventually turned in were my best work. (Ethan) really helped me develop my ideas into what could become essays. The biggest thing was the topic of my common app essay: that I've spent a lot of time prioritizing my desire to have stability over some of the other things I want. Through this process, I've learned to start letting this go.
