Your transcript doesn't explain itself
US admissions officers read thousands of applications and aren't experts in every grading system. Part of the work is making sure an IB, A-Level, CBSE, or ICSE record is read in context, the way it should be.
The personal statement is new territory
It's a personal story written in your own voice. That's different from the academic essays and statements of purpose most international students have written before, and it takes a different kind of preparation.
The timeline starts earlier than you expect
Early Decision and Early Action deadlines fall in October and November of senior year. Most of our international students start working with us in the spring or summer before their application year.
Financial aid works differently
Some US schools are need-blind with strong aid for international applicants. Many offer little or none. A realistic school list depends on knowing which is which, and we're honest about it from the start.
Your activities need translation
Olympiad results, national competitions, and school roles that are well known at home can read as unfamiliar to a US admissions officer. Framing them clearly is often what turns a strong profile into a legible one.
Holistic review has no printed rulebook
US admissions weighs essays, activities, context, and fit together. From outside the system, that ambiguity is hard to plan around. Most of what we do is turn it into a clear set of decisions.

The session most students say changes everything. We ask questions until we find the story, then map it out before your student writes a word. International students often have rich, specific material that doesn't reach the page without this step.
Draft, revise, refine
Your student drafts and the consultant gives written feedback, round after round. The consultant coaches the writing and asks the questions that push it further. The goal is an essay that sounds like your student wrote it, because they did.

Before submission, we review the complete application: all essays, activities, short answers, and school-specific materials. We flag anything that needs attention and sign off when it's ready to go.

Common questions from international families
Does CEG work with students outside the United States?
Yes. We work with international students across the globe, from India, China, the UK, Canada, and beyond. Our consultants have experience with IB, A-Level, CBSE, and other non-US curricula. All sessions are virtual, so location isn’t a barrier.
Do your consultants understand IB and A-Level transcripts?
Yes. We help international students contextualize their academic records, explaining grading scales, subject choices, and predicted grades, so admissions officers understand what your student has achieved.
Can international students get financial aid at US colleges?
It depends on the school. Some US universities, including several Ivies, offer need-blind admissions and strong aid for international students. Others offer little or none. We help you build a list that’s realistic for your finances and are honest about where aid is and isn’t available.
How do I explain my school's grading system to admissions officers?
The Common App includes space to explain your school’s grading scale, and we coach students on how to use it well. We also help students and counselors put together accurate, contextualized school profiles where needed.
Is the personal statement harder to write as an international student?
Not inherently, but it takes a different kind of preparation. The format is unfamiliar, and there’s a real risk of over-explaining or under-explaining your background. Our brainstorming process is designed to help students find the right angle on their own story.
How early should an international student start working with a consultant?
Most students who work with us start in the spring of 11th grade, or the summer before senior year at the latest. For students applying Early Decision or Early Action, with deadlines in October, starting earlier gives more time to develop strong essays without rushing.
Do you have consultants with experience working with Indian and Chinese students?
Yes. Our coaches have worked with students applying from India (CBSE, ICSE, and IB) and from China, including families in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Beijing, and Shanghai. Your free consultation is a good place to ask about a specific match.
Does working with a US consultant make my student's essays sound less authentic?
Our whole method is built to do the opposite. We don’t impose an American voice or a formula. We ask questions until the student’s actual story comes through. International students often write the most distinctive personal statements precisely because their experience is specific.
