Fidelity Internships Guide for High Schoolers

If you’re exploring a potential career in finance, Fidelity’s Career Discovery Program could be a great fit, giving you the opportunity to be a part of one of the largest financial service providers and asset managers in the world.

A bit about the company: Fidelity was founded on the idea that people should be encouraged to “take intelligent risks rather than follow the crowd.” The company aims to help people lead better lives, priding itself on its innovative approach.

What are Fidelity’s Career Discovery Programs?

Fidelity’s Career Discovery Programs are designed to introduce students to the financial services and technology industries. These programs offer educational events, job shadowing, and mentorship to help students identify their strengths and explore career paths before transitioning into formal internships or entry-level roles.

Fidelity offers some internships specifically for female high schoolers. These 5-week-long programs are held in Boston, MA, and Merrimack, NH, and are a chance for female students to learn more about a possible career in financial services.

As an intern, you’ll gain experience in different sectors of the field, including investment strategies, financial analysis, risk management, and portfolio management. Interns work on real-world projects and apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios. If you’re interested in gaining exposure to the financial sector, receiving mentorship from experts, and gaining career guidance, this program is potentially a great next step in your research into the world of finance.

What do students get to do and learn?

The Boundless Program is run by Fidelity’s Asset Management Talent Acquisition team. Through a series of creative challenges, networking opportunities, and learning about all things finance, from Bitcoin to investment, female high school students can learn new skills and encounter the world of finance for themselves. Participants hear from keynote speakers, learn about a range of topics such as managing their money and assets, and join in Shark Tank-style projects and challenges.

In addition, the Boundless program for high schoolers offers two other opportunities.

First, during the year, Fidelity holds several career discovery events. These day-long summits aim to open the minds of female high schoolers, allowing them to discover the huge range of opportunities available in financial services and at Fidelity.

The summit takes place at one of several different locations:

  • Boston, MA
  • Merrimack, NH
  • Westlake, TX
  • Durham, NC

Fidelity also offers female high schoolers the chance to shadow one of their associates in the Boston offices and see firsthand what working at the company is like. If you really want to understand what working in finance would look like, what better way to find out than job shadowing?

Where Discovery Leads: Early Career Pipelines

Fidelity uses these discovery programs as a feeder into their more structured, full-time training pathways for upperclassmen and recent graduates:

The 10-Week Fidelity Intern Program
Tailored for college sophomores and juniors, this program places students into one of eight specialized tracks (such as Tech, Asset Management, HR, or Customer Service) and frequently serves as a direct pipeline to full-time employment offers.

The Leap Program
A highly sought-after, paid 12-week development program for recent or upcoming technology grads. It acts as an immersive onboarding experience into full-time Software Engineering or Data Engineering roles.

Paid Licensing Training Program
For entry-level customer-facing and financial advisor tracks, Fidelity provides a fully paid, self-paced training curriculum to help new hires study for and pass essential industry exams (like the SIE, Series 7, and Series 63).

Fidelity Internships Eligibility Requirements

This is a paid internship program that typically runs for five weeks in July and August. There is no cost. Participants receive a certificate on completion of their internship.

The Boundless program is open to female high school students. Students from anywhere can apply, but must be able to commute to Boston, MA or Merrimack, NH for the program.
