Another Path

Let’s be real. There are more than just seven ways to write a montage essay.

In fact, there are probably infinite ways.

I’ve picked these seven because they’ve worked pretty well for more than 300 students over the past five years. Or, more precisely, I looked at the essays that 300+ students wrote over the past five years and found that many of them used one of these paths/methods.

Having said that, there was a small percentage of students who used a slightly different method or combined two to form a hybrid method.

Still other students wrote essays that were either so good or so bad that they defied categorization!

So while I recommend trying these seven ways, as they can yield a wide range of essays, if these feel confining then please—absolutely—feel free to carve your own path.

And if you do and it turns out well, email it to me! help@collegeessayguy.com

For now, though, I’d say try one of these and see what happens. And if you’ve already tried one and it didn’t work, try another:

  1. I Love/I Know

  2. Essence Object(s)/Stuff in My Room

  3. Skill/Superpower

  4. Career

  5. Identity

  6. Home

  7. Uncommon Extracurricular Activity
